Ok, so i have definitely seen this principle used before, i don't know if its one of my books or DVDs or something someone showed me but i already knew the method, i had just forgotten it!! ha ha!! Does that even make sense??!?
Ok, so the effect is very good. I like it, its not impromptu, but its definitely a solid workhorse that you can add to your performing repertoire.
The teaching video is 15 minutes long, and in my opninion isn't very good. If you don't know the principle you may be a little confused as Luke doesn't exactly explain everything that cleary and he actually omits a vital point that he doesn't mention till very near the end of the video. In the teaching segment there are parts in which Luke is using the wrong cards. There are also a few camera edits where the cards Luke is using change. He does go over some points with hints and tips which is good, but its all fairly brief. Also, the final phase as shown on the demo vid isn't always possible and the out Luke gives in the explanation is quite weak.
However, you can understand the basics of this effect quite easily, so you won't have any problems learning it really. There are defiintely better places to learn this effect from. It is my understanding that there are versions in print (and on DVD) by Harry Lorayne, Allan Ackerman, Larry Becker and Darwin Ortiz to name a few. I don't know its origins but it is a classic effect!
Is it worth it? Well its only 12 bucks, so if you're desperate to perform this effect and really like it then yes, maybe it is worth it. But if you can hold off and buy a book or DVD that contains this effect you would be better off! And check out some of your old magic books (if you have an extensive library that is!!) as you may find this effect in one of those.
My rating - hmmm......a 7/10. Its a really nice effect, but i wouldn't want to learn it from Luke Jermay's download from Penguin. It feels like it was rushed a little bit. Definitely a case of less speed and more haste!
Hope this helps
