http://www.creativemagic.net/kids/biggerwands.htm

Nominated mostly for the following paragraph of hype (though there are plenty of other reasons as well):

Quote
Bigger Wands can turn a 10 sec trick into a 5 min routine that kids and parents will remember you for. "Hey, you're the magician with the gigantic wands!" - we have heard it dozens of times!

Yeah, cause that's how you want to be remembered. Also, what 10 second trick can be made 30x longer with a 7 foot foam wand? And for the love of Keith Barber, why would you want to stretch a ten second trick that long? And foregoing all of that, who does a ten second trick anyway? You'd have time for what, one color change? Does that even qualify as a trick?

And you know what, I was going to leave it alone, but now that I'm typing, I might as well rant about this part too:

Quote
You can even use the wands as an upsell. We have added
them to family shows as an upsell dozens of times for $200 or more
(yep, more than the cost of the wands)!

Oh, very nice. Someone else point out the lunacy. I don't have enough rawhide to bite down on.

I agree, its not the size of ya wand, but how you use it

Quote
The largest wand is great for photos that will, in turn,
keep people talking about your show and get you more bookings.

You can even use the wands as an upsell. We have added
them to family shows as an upsell dozens of times for $200 or more
(yep, more than the cost of the wands)!

Its a shame the wand has become less used in magic, I know its a little dated, but it can help in many effects?

I feel that the wand is fine if it used with integrity and intelligence, just like any other prop. It runs the risk of being cliche and a little hokey, but then again, so do playing cards, coins, top hats, etc. Watch a video of Dai Vernon using a wand, and you'll never doubt it again.

That being said, I don't own a single one, nor do I intend to anytime soon.

Guys, this is a piece of kids magic. IMO kids would love this sort of thing.

I'm sure it could be used well, especially in a kids show setting - but I really nominated it for the hype aspect...they are selling it as something it definitely is not.

Let me just throw in my $.02

This is certainly not hype!

You should check out this thread: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=171326&forum=17
Those are dozens of people who own the wands and use them in all fo their kids shows and are WELL WORTH IT!

I am actually going to also buy some Bigger Wands for my kids shows!

You have to understand that this is a kids trick.

Best,
-Vinnie

EDIT: Okay, I wrote this before I heads what Keith and Andrew had to say, and like them, I agree - this is not 86% crap, it's hype - and only for the reasons due to the description on the site.

Exactly Vinnie - that's why I gave it my nod. The prop itself is fine, and I'm sure a talented performer could make it work beautifully (hell, Michael Close hinges his table hopping routine on a doll hand on a stick), but the ad copy is just ridiculous and infuriating.

Vinnie I agree with you as well, about the kid thing.  If you look at the hype though, they say :

You can even use the wands as an upsell. We have added
them to family shows as an upsell dozens of times for $200 or more
(yep, more than the cost of the wands)!

And that's just hype of the week gold!
