Ok... A topic was started in another section, but I am posting the review here.
Flare by Alpha Magic
To start off with, I give it a thumbs up. But is it something new? Absolutely not. You can find all the information you need in the book Chemical Magic. But is this worth buying? Sure why not.
What it is... It's basically their set up of the chemical reaction. It's very good, and they give you some of the material needed. They also include a template and a gimmick.
Here is what the effect looks like in real life.
You pull out a cigarette and tap it a little. Either in your hand, on the cigarette box, or on a cigarette case. You hold the cigarette up, it begins to smoke, and then a flame, and it's now lit.
Can you smoke it then? Sure why not. Are the chemicals dangerous? Not near as dangerous as what's in the cigarette already.
So hears the big kicker... Can it be done with a borrowed cigarette? Short answer, no. Long answer... Why not? But of course you are going to have to do a switch. And technically that is not a borrowed cigarette, but the spectators won't know. So it will at least look like it. Of course, you will have to make sure it's the same brand as the switch.
But I don't smoke... so I plan on doing the switch.
The local bar I go to sells only camel cigarettes. So most people smoke those. So it shouldn't be that difficult to do.
Now a few thoughts about the DVD... It is done rather nice. There are a few blur spots, but nothing really bad. It did come nicely packaged and seeled. It is not a homemade video. Now then the chemicals that they tell you to use can not be found at a drug store, like they say it can. You can easily order them online though, but... You can find one a pet store or a pond store. And the other can be found at a hobby store such as Hobby Lobby.
All in all... It's not bad, and it's actually a Jim Pace idea and they do credit him.
Plus there is this Asian girl on there that has some wicked looking hands. They are all pointy and maniacal looking. I like her look, but that's me.
